  • Wilding Hope Farm 229 Cuba Mills Road Mifflintown, PA, 17059 United States (map)

The is the second of 4 gardening workshops filled with great information for those who want to start growing their own cut flowers. You can buy tickets to just this individual workshop, or purchase the whole course at a discounted rate here.

This on-farm workshop will give you the tools needed to plan a garden filled with annual cut flowers that bloom all the way until frost! We’ll demonstrate how to start different kinds of warm weather annuals from seed, cover transplanting do’s and don’ts, and discuss how to direct seed successions of Sunflowers and other short lived blooms for season extension. A good portion of this workshop will be focused on creating a garden plan that gives you a great mix of blooms for creative and elevated floral bouquets throughout the summer. We’ll talk about choosing flower varieties using complimentary color palettes, planting for textural interest with fillers and foliage, and the proper plant spacing for the quality blooms. Bring a notebook, dimensions of your garden space, and lots of questions!

The second half of the workshop will involve an introduction to weed and water management tools used here on the farm that can be modified to work in your home gardens including rain water collection and distribution, mulching and the use of tarping for weed control, and the benefits of planting living pathways for soil building. Attendees will be able to choose 24 plant starts and a packet of sunflower seeds, which can be picked up at the farm in May once frost is past.
