This is the last of 4 gardening workshops filled with tons of great information for those who want to grow their own cut flowers. You can buy tickets to just this individual workshop, or purchase the whole course at a discounted rate here!
Late August is the perfect time to begin harvesting and preserving blooms from your cutting garden for autumn and winter crafting projects and saving seeds for next year’s garden. In this workshop we’ll explore which flower varieties have the best shape, color, and textures for everlasting flowers. We’ll also talk about how to cut each flower at the perfect stage for drying, which is often a very different stage than harvesting for fresh cuts. We’ll discuss the best time of day to harvest for different methods of preservation and varied techniques of preservation for different flower types. Since many flowers are also starting to develop seeds at this stage of the summer, we’ll talk about how to tell when seeds are mature enough to harvest and discuss how to best to preserve them for sowing the following spring. Each attendee will pick a lush bucket of blooms, seed pods, and foliage to take home with them to preserve.
The second half of the workshop we’ll move to the Wilding Hope drying room and floral studio to look at methods of floral preservation including various methods of hanging, pressing, and dehydrating. We’ll also spend some time looking at different ways that everlasting flowers can be used to celebrate nature’s beauty in the fall and winter months and we’ll create a small dried floral craft together using flowers preserved earlier in the season.
All tools and supplies and light refreshments will be provided but attendee’s may want to bring a pair of gloves to protect their hands.
